Ladybug Illustration, Yankee Magazine (2003)

Art Director: Leonard Loria
Illustrator: Gil Martinez
Technique: Watercolor

In 2003, Yankee Magazine ran a story on ladybugs (Harmonia axyridis), which are very common in New England. The article opener had about a hundred of them, repeated from this illustration at different angles, so it was important that they look convincing. Stray bugs were randomly placed throughout the magazine.
